| The
body (clay) that we use is made from a blend of plastic refractory
fireclays plus a small proportion of sand, which produces a fine speckle
when fired - for example our Pebble glaze finish. We also add molochite
(china clay) which improves the thermal shock resistance of the clay,
making it very suitable for oven to table ware shapes and for use
in microwave ovens, etc. It is not recommended for naked flame cooking.
The body isfired to 1200C - 1250C (white hot). |
At this temperature the clay and theglaze mature, making the product
tough and vitrified, with water absorption of less than 0.5%. The
clay has been tested by British Ceramic Research Ltd, Stoke On Trent,
and was found to be extremely good for thermal shock resistance and
durability in use. In fact, we came out better than many of our major
competitors. Of course, the design of the ware also plays a crucial
part in its durability and strength. |
