Throwing Course

Our one-day courses are the perfect start for people wanting to try their hand at throwing clay on a potter’s wheel.

We run these courses in small class sizes to ensure you get as much one on one tuition as possible.

The courses are usually held on Saturdays and Sundays and run from 9.30am until 3.30pm.

The course includes:

  • Meet and greet in the Kiln Café on arrival
  • Full tuition with an experienced pottery thrower
  • Learn about clay preparation
  • Practise throwing bowls and upright pots
  • One masterpiece to be fired & glazed *

* One piece per person fired and glazed to be collected at a later date. Any additional pieces charged at £10 per piece to be paid for on the day.

We also provide refreshments throughout the day and a tasty lunch with the group in our Kiln Café.

Price: £150 per person

Please note: We hold your masterpiece for 6 months. Any pot or piece not collected in this period will be disposed of.

Meet the tutors

Agota Andras
Agi joined the pottery team in 2017 as a production thrower and tutor. Taught by her grandfather in her native Hungary Agi has over 30 years of experience. Agi enjoys experimenting with different design techniques and glaze finishes to create unique and highly sought-after pieces.

Jaroslav Hrustalenko
Jaro has been part of the Grayshott Pottery team since 2007 working as a production thrower and tutor. He obtained his Master of Arts at the University of Creative Arts in Farnham, specialising in ceramics. Jaro’s inspiration largely come from body movement which is reflected in is work.
